Girl's Trips to the Beach

Women spend most of their time thinking about the needs of others. Whether at home or work, an essential part of who we are, revolves around supporting others.  This is especially true when we are raising children.   And honestly when I say this is who we are, there are no bad feelings or unease, we take this on naturally, and without pause.

I have not taken many girls trips in my life.  I guess life got busy and when I took trips as a young woman, those were always family trips including my daughter and husband. Time and finance limitations made it seem impossible and extravagant.

I am now an empty nester and time is no longer a restriction, and I am blessed to say neither is finance.  So, in 2022 I was asked on a girl's trip and it was AMAZING!    We spent time in Florida on the beach for a long weekend. The trip was a very impactful getaway.

We laughed about stuff we experienced over the years, that seemed relevant at the time but years later not as serious.  We also cried (well maybe just me).  I lost my dad in 2021 and the loss was still fresh. Another friend on the trip had lost her dad too in a very different way.   We were able to share that loss and felt comfortable in doing so.  We talked about our husbands, and their endless patience with us as we make our way through life.  And we bragged about our kids, who we love more than anything and miss sometimes now that they are adults.

The next year my daughter joined the trip and we once again headed to the beach!  We also added a few events to our annual getaway. There were 4 of us, so each night a duo, was responsible for orchestrating a theme for the night!

One night was Galantines Day and the 2nd night was 70s!    Each team brought goody bag items and decorations for the condo!   There was music and dancing!    And again, I realized the importance of time with other women.   Inviting a 29-year-old (my daughter) to the trip added a different element too!  Who doesn’t want to be 29 again? For a few days we all were! 

So, grab a group of ladies and head to the beach or wherever your tribe feels inclined to go!  Spend time laughing, dancing and singing because it’s good for the soul. These trips will be remembered in years to come. As we grow older, these gifts of time for one another, will mean more than any material item ever could.

In 2022, I went on a girl's trip. The trip happened just when I needed it, and with just the right ladies.   I am not sure I ever told them how much that experience meant to me.  But they know now.  Thank you, Cheryl and Laura.
